As we extend the functionality of OB3, we are partnering with Dr Andrew Trotman at the University of Otago for a trial integration of the University’s ATIRE search engine.
Working with ATIRE allows us to refine the search algorithms, giving a custom search experience for OB3 based on users’ actual requirements. Our expectation is that users will get fast and accurate search across all OB3 content types.
Andrew has an interesting background, including as co-founder and CTO of BioMedNet and ChemWeb, early digital libraries successfully sold to Elsevier, and co-Chair of INEX, an international academic search consortium. He clearly knows his apples.
Given there is no shortage of search engines, and some very popular ones; it will be interesting to see how a custom implementation stacks up. We’ll keep you posted here on how we get on.
